Diablo III Coming Sooner Than Expected?

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Apparently, according to an unnamed Blizzard source, and this has been circulating around the Battleforums, Starcraft II’ development has been slowed down in order to put more effort into Diablo III. The news of which I couldn’t be more happy about! We might even see the third game in the series released in 2009 then, which would be a bloody miracle!

Is WiiFit Worth It?

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Like the title says - is WiiFit truly worth picking up, especially given it’s £69.99 price tag here in the UK? I, personally, haven’t given it a massive go, but am hoping to in the near future so I’ll post my opinions then. For now though, you have the opinions of, Miharu, a good friend of mine, as she explains what she thinks of Nintendo’s foray into the fitness leagues…

Ah, WiiFit. I eagerly awaited it’s release, bought it the day it came out, and now, after 98 days if use, I finally feel ready to give my verdict…

I’ve always enjoyed keeping fit, but my sit-ups, press-ups and bum lifts were getting a bit dull. The first time I tried WiiFit, I worked up a sweat and got exhausted but thoroughly enjoyed myself and it didn’t feel like a chore. Everything is demonstrated clearly and is easy to follow.

Now, a few months on, WiiFit, although still a good tool, is starting to show it’s flaws. I think I must have worked though the yoga poses maybe twice before getting thoroughly bored. I guess if you’re a yoga kind of person you may find them easier to stomach but I found them unchallenging and dull.

The muscle exercises section, well, I have mixed feelings on this one. While it can get very dull and repetitive, most of the exercises do feel beneficial and the game handily explains what muscles everything is meant to be working.

The aerobics section is by far my favourite,. The boxing game gets you sweaty and is a great stress buster (despite the trainer being annoying beyond all reason). The jogging game feels like a good workout, although always deflates you afterwards by informing you that you’ve done terribly and not giving a reason why. The hula hoop spinning and step routine game are both good fun , with a high score system which is good motivation, although I do sometimes get the feeling that the step game doesn’t do much in the fat burning department.

Last but not least, the balance games. These are more like games than workouts really and don’t really feel like they’re exercising you at all. However, they are stupidly fun and make use of the balance board well.

So mixed reactions on the actual exercises themselves, but WiiFit’s main flaw is the same as that of slapper on a night out: It gives everything away too quick, leaving you nothing new and exciting later on in the ‘relationship’. You start with maybe 3 games in a section, and have to unlock about another 8ish, but this proved so easy I have everything within the first week.

I didn’t actually lose any weight using the Wii Fit, but also didn’t gain any with it as my only form of exercise, which is a plus of sorts! WiiFit might help you drop a few pounds if your daily exercise is reaching for the remote to fast forward the romantic scenes in Star Wars, but otherwise it is more of a weight maintainance tool. I would recommend WiiFit, but don’t get your expectations too high. If you stick with it, you will get some results, and really, it does do what it says on the box. Lets just hope those lovely people at Nintendo will create some kind of downloadable extras for it before I go mad and give in to a life of eating butter and losing the use of my legs…

Friday Game Of The Week: Resistance: Fall Of Man

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Yes, I have finally brought it back and as usual am posting it a day late, but nevertheless here’s a return for the Friday Game Of The Week! This past week I’ve mostly been playing through Resistance: Fall Of Man on my PS3 and finally got around to completing it. Despite having not tried out the online modes yet (as usual…), I have to say I’ve rather enjoyed playing Insomniac’s PS3 debut with it’s pleasant mix of realistic settings and science fiction scenario and, as per usual, lots of shooty action! Taking place across England shortly after the time of World War II, it tells the story of tha Chimaira invasion - a vast army of insect-like aliens who have invaded our country and destroyed most of it. You play as Nathan Hale, a soldier fighting to save England from this horrific threat.

And that’s pretty much the jist of it really! But, like I say, it’s an enjoyable game and is full of Insomniac’s flair for solid and impressive gameplay, despite the massive jump from Ratchet & Clank to this! It’s definitely worth picking up, especially now given how cheaply you can find it!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Demo Impressions

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Slamming storm troopers into the ceiling of a hanger? Slicing innocent R2 units in half with your light sabre? Frying the brain of any number of pilots with your lightning? All in a days work for your friendly neighbourhood, okay not particularly friendly and nowhere near your neighbourhood, Sith warrior. At least that’s what Darth Vader is training our main character up to be in LucasArts’ latest entry into the ever-lasting Star Wars video game series: The Force Unleashed.

I downloaded the demo a few days ago and got stuck in straight away and was instantly baffled by the over-complex controls, but after playing around with it for a little while I finally got to grips with them and started enjoying destroying everything in my little Sith warrior’s path. The demo takes place inside an Imperial space station with you running through a number of corridors and open rooms killing multiple storm troopers and pilots before your final confrontation with an AT-ST walker.

As I previously mentioned, the controls can take a bit of getting used to, the force grip in particular. You use the R2 button to grasp onto your target and then use both analogue sticks to manipulate the target in 3D space and it certainly takes a little while to get the hang of, especially when under pressure! Despite this is can be great fun messing around with the games’ physics engine while you liberally toss enemies around and into each other and watch them grasp for dear life as you prise them off of the floor and slam them into the ceiling.

The graphics and sound are given the usual LucasArts presentation and are impressive throughout. It will just be interesting to see if the fun can be kept up throughout the entire experience or whether being an all-destroying warrior will wear thing somewhat.

Diablo III Timeline

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

In the gradual progression towards Diablo III’s release sometime in the far away future, Blizzard are constantly updating their official website for the game and the newest update of said websites comes in the form of a timeline, detailing events that have taken place in the lead up to the thrid game in the series, including the death of Diablo himself and Tyrael’s reluctant destroying of the Worldstone.

It’s well worth taking a few minutes to have a glance through it, regardless if you’ve played the prior games or not. The Diablo lore is well worth checking out and here’s hoping they continue to progress this great story into Diablo III.

First Warhammer: Space Marine Footage

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Despite having horrendous animation and clunky looking controls, both of which can be forgiven given this game’s current state of being in pre-alpha development, a new Warhammer game being created by THQ looks like it could live up to the potential of the lore. Taking command of a space marine, players will erm… kill lots of baddies. That’s pretty much all that’s been revealed thus far aside from the horrendous ‘marketing phrases’ used by the voiceover guy in the video. You’ll see what I mean.

Viva Pinata: Trouble In Paradise

Published by Nightwolf under Uncategorized

The second installment of pinatas has arrived! Originally I deemed this game to be quite childish (and with the TV programme, can you really blame me?), but after playing the first installment I have to say I’m looking forward to playing this next one! This fantastic little game is also now avaible on the Nintendo DS as well as the Xbox 360; with more challenges and more pinatas this game is looking to be quite something for anybodies collection.

A Wedding Fit For Hyrule

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Two members of the body modification website, BMEzine.com, whose main passion is to play video games, have gotten married! This is what they have to say:

James and I met online two years ago in a Zelda forum. The first pictures we saw of each other were not of our faces but of these tattoos, they inspired us to become friends, then to eventually meet.

Our first date was a night of Mario Kart 64 and we’ve been together ever since! We thought this shot at our wedding would be especially appropriate..

Come on everyone, say it: nawwwwwww.

Most Anticipated Games

Published by iSkate under Uncategorized

Ever since I’ve played video games, every year there’d be a few games I couldn’t wait to finally play. This year’s a great year for me, because there are so many games I’m excited for, that I can’t decide which I should get first. Here are some of the games I’m most anxious for.

Banjo Kazooie : Nuts & Bolts

I used to play the second game, Banjo Tooie, back when I had my N64, and I loved it, even though I could never beat it. Maybe I’ll have to dig out my Nintendowhile I’m waiting and see if I can get through it. Whether I can or not, I can’t wait to play this and the original they’re releasing for the Live Arcade.

Gears of War 2

When I got my xBox 2 years ago for Christmas, Gears of War was top of my list of games to get, so the sequel’s high up there this year too. Even if they had’ve kept the game mostly the same and just added onto the original storyline, I’d be anxious to pick it up, so the add-ons just make it better.

Fable 2

I didn’t play the original Fable, and have no idea how the storyline goes. Basically, this just loks like one of the games I’d enjoy. I like the animated look for games like this. Shooters are better with better graphics, but these RPGs are more fun with a cartoony vibe, at least for me.

Fallout 3

Again, I’ve never played, or even heard of, the first two Fallout’s, so I hope these were older games before I started playing shooters. The post-apocalyptic environment is what I’m mainly looking forward to, just because of the creepy vibe all the trailers I’ve watched had.

So that’s my list, if those games aren’t your type, something else is coming out soon that will.

The Truth About Portal

Published by iSkate under Uncategorized

I’ve put down the Orange Box forever because until I played it, I thought it was just like those demo discs I used to play on my PS2, but I gave it and try and played through Portal, and it’s pretty good. The sole purpose of the game is to escape from the Aperture Science Institute by using the Portals shot from your “Portal Gun”.

The game is great fun and I’d recommend it to anyone. It makes you think outside the box in order to get to the next level, but is kept amusing by GLaDOS, a robotic voice that follows you throughout the game. It sounds creepy, but some of the things she says is hilarious. All in all, I’d give the game a 9.5. It’s almost a ten, but I’d imagine that I’d get tired of it after playing it through a few times.

Joker Goes BANG!

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Honestly, I haven’t really cared about anything to do with Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. It’s essentially a dying franchise hoping to inject some sales and life into itself with what seems like a gimmick. Until I saw this. Still riding on the awesomeness that is The Dark Knight I’m in the process of lapping up everything Batman based and this is one of the most awesome fatalities ever in the history of Mortal Kombat. Just check out the video, you have to wait till the end.

Warhammer Online Cinematic Trailer

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Oh, how I love cinematic trailers to video games. Yeah, they tell you bugger all about the game itself, but they can look so fucking amazing it’s hard to care. The new trailer for Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning does just this - it looks astounding. This is the only game I can name that has a chance to take World Of Warcraft off it’s throne of most popular MMORPG, but even that is pushing it. Nevertheless, I plan on picking this up when it finally comes out, at least if it’s relatively bug-free.

But for now, check out the awesome trailer!

Heavy Rain: World’s First Gameplay Trailer

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Up, just as the post title says - Sony have debuted the world’s first in game footage of Heavy Rain at the Leipzig Games Convention and, pardon the French, it looks fucking amazing - just check out those graphics! But aside from looks, the game is supposed to be terrifying and the atmosphere certainly looks like it could live up to this claim. Oh, and I’m liking the subtle, non-obtrusive quick-time events too. Check it out. I’ll try and get a direct feed of this trailer when it’s put up.

New Addition: Nightwolf

Published by Nightwolf under Uncategorized

Steph (Nightwolf), 18, has joined the Headshot team.

”Originally starting my gaming experinces at the tender age of yester year, I was an Nintendo fan, my first ever console being a NES, the reason being because Mario and Sonic were the only things at that time that could hold my attention; since then I’ve learnt to love nearly all the consoles out there. Over the years I’ve had too many games and consoles to mention them all, but distinct ones include Rayman on the PS1, Final Fantasy X (my first Final Fantasy experince, many years ago now) on the PS2 and more recently Okami on the Wii. Until recently most of my games were bought by family, until a Christmas or so ago I was told I would not recieve anymore because I was completing them by the end of Christmas day!

Jumping straight to today my hobby will now also become my career path, I decided many many birthdays ago that I wished to go into gaming as a profess and in a months or so time will be studying game design at Sheffield Hallam University. Something I have been lucky enough to be able to pursue. Hopefully along the way I may be able to encounter Sony as well as Codemasters there, both companies I would be more than happy to work for. Hopefully this will give me more excuse to have even more consoles and games for my tiny room.

In future I’m looking forward to be able to play more PC games which are currently lacking in my life, with the news of Guild Wars 2. I’m also hoping to obtain Fable 2 for the Xbox 360 (if I ever get round to buying one!), until then I have headshot to keep me updated with games I am either playing or need to get off my bum and buy.”

Mad World Leipzig Trailer

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

I haven’t posted much about this awesome looking game, but now is definitely my time to with the release of the new trailer being shown at the Leipzig Games Convention. Mad World is being developed by Platinum Games (consisting of members of Clover Studios - the team that created Okami) and being published by Sega. It’s set to be released on the Wii and will easily be one of, if not the, most violent game on it. It’s only really the distinct art style that’s keeping it from being potentially banned!

House Of The Dead: Overkill Debut Trailer

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Sega have just released what is possibly one of the best trailers of all time for their upcoming House Of The Dead Wii game, Overkill. I know very little about the game itself, but from the trailer you can tell it’s effectively a light gun game, like the others in the series so it’ll undoubtedly be full of slaughtering hordes of zombies. The trailer itself reminds me somewhat of Tarantino and Rodriguez’s Grindhouse films, with the flickering screen and picture quality. Check it out below and tell us what you think!

Versus

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

Yeah, things have been a bit slack on the Headshot front these last few weeks and I apoligise for that, but hopefully we’ll get things up-and-running with more frequency soon with some awesome articles and news bulletins. The first of which is a segment we’re calling Versus. Basically it’s going to consist of us taking two similar games and playing them off against each other in a series of categories - graphics, gameplay, lifespan and the like. This, along with the Game Of The Week segment, is going to form a selection of regular updates to this site that will be put up the same day each week for example. Hopefully with this and other ideas brewing within our writery minds we’ll start to set this site back on track

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Demo

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

The new episode of GTTV is out and the biggest thing that caught my eye throughout the show was the announcement of The Force Unleashed demo! Set to be released on the 21st August for both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, it’s certainly a game that has fans drooling at the potential set to be unleashed (ha!) and this demo will give them (and me) a chance to try it out. I don’t know whether or not this includes the European networks as it’s an American site, but PSN owners can always set up an American PSN account and download it like that.

Assassin’s Creed Review

Published by iSkate under Uncategorized

The only good way to review a game is to finish it first, it’s the only way you can view all the aspects of the game. I finished this game a while ago, but I guess the first review is the hardest because this is much harder than just stating facts. I’d personally recommend it to anyone who has any interest in the Crusades or likes sword-based games, because it’s just a fantastic game to play and watch the storyline progress. It takes place in 1191, during the Third-Crusade. While the Saracens and Templars are waging war for control , a third faction, the Assassins, are on a path to restore peace tp the holy land. You play Altair, an Assassin stripped of his rank and forced to redeem himself by assassinating 9 evil men.

Psyche, you’re actually not playing Altair, but Altair’s descendant, Desmond Miles. Desmond is being held against his will by a scientific research center called Abstergo in order to test it’s latest invention, ‘The Animus’. While inside the Animus, the user is able to access his or her ancestors memories by living out the life of that ancestor. While outside of the Animus, you’re in a research center, while inside the Animus, you control Altair and play out his quest.

Besides for the storyline, this story has 2 other major aspects I feel should be brought into my review. The combat and the quests.

The combat is probably the most advanced I’ve seen in any video game, with 5 weapons to choose from. You have your standard sword, your short sword, your throwing knives, your hidden blade and your fists. Each weapon has a different set of kill styles which are, most of the time, shown to you close-up when you perform them. It looks amazing. Also, you’ll pick up on strategies fast which will enable you to dispatch large groups of enemies almost effortlessly. 1 vs 15, no problem. The only downside I saw with the combat is that the moves do get old. Although each and every move is amazing to watch the first few times, it does get a bit old once you’ve assassinated a few of your targets, remember that there are 9.

Now for the quests. Before you can assassinate a target, you must track that target down by investigating and finding information of their whereabouts. You need 3 pieces of information out of the 6 available for every target, and can acquire the information through informers, pickpocketing, interrogation or eavesdropping. After completing either of the 4 activities you recieve an important piece of imformation. Once you have 3 you can choose to go back to the Assassin’s Bureau and get the go-ahead to assassinate your target. The Assassin at each town will give you a white feather once you have the information, and you go to assassinate your target. You find your target, assassinate him, wet the feather with his blood and return to the bureau. But it’s not that simple, once you assassinate the target, the city’s guards are on high alert, so be careful if you don’t want to attract attention. The major downpoint for this part is that it’s very repetitive. It’s literally a lather, rinse, repeat process and you just do the same things over and over again just to kill another target with a few plot-twists thrown in every now and again just to keep a hold on you. Go get the game, it is worth it, despite the repetitiveness.

Gaming With Style. Or At Least A Shitload Of Monitors.

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

How’s this for a gaming rig? Except it’s not actually designed for gaming, it’s been installed in a government office and consists of twenty seven 67″ high definition monitors. A reader of Kotaku apparently installs PC setups for a living and was contracted in to install this one and subsequently proceeded to play Bioshock and World Of Warcraft on it. What a guy. All in all, those monitors equate to a display that’s 40 feet wide and 15 feet high with an insane resolution of 12600 x 3150. That’s fairly hefty; imagine playing Crysis on that screen. I think your eyes would melt.

Although it hasn’t been disclosed yet as to what this in-game content is. There’s also what appear to be art cards bundled in it as well that look pretty neat. Overall this is a pretty nifty looking limited edition set. It has an R.R.P. of £49.99.

My Top 10 Most Anticipated Games

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

So, with E3 finished and a vast expansion of possible releases set forth in front of us, which titles am I personally looking forward to the most? To qualify for this list the title has to have it’s existence confirmed with at least a teaser trailer or suchlike - so no Zelda despite various Nintendo people stating it is in existence.

1. Diablo 3

Yep, I love the Diablo series and, given Blizzard’s impeccable track record, Diablo 3 should be no different and that’s ultimately why it’s top of my most anticipated games list. Screw the haters who don’t appreciate the series’ new art direction, Diablo 3 looks beautiful in motion and proves once again that Blizzard have some of the best artists in the business.

2. God Of War 3

Only a menial teaser of this game has been shown thus far and already it’s looking rather tasty, so to speak. Hopefully Sony can bring the awesomeness of the previous two titles into the current generation.

3. Resident Evil 5

Yeah, the animations and gameplay look virtually the same as the previous game in the series, but when the previous game is Resident Evil 4 that’s nothing to scoff at. The tension looks ramped up to infinity in what could be Resident Evil’s finest hour.

4. Prince Of Persia

I wasn’t that excited for this prior to E3, but the absolutely stunning graphics and amazing Ico-esque looking environments are nothing compared to how well this is supposed to play. I loved Sands Of Time on the PS2 and if this can even come close then Ubi-Soft are onto a winner.

5. Gears Of War 2

It was a toss up between this and Resistance 2 for the number five spot on this list, but I ultimately game it to Gears because of the awesome trailer and gameplay footage Epic debuted at E3. With the potential to take the awesomeness of the previous game and ramp up the “bigger” and “badder” even more, this is going to be one hell of a ride.

6. Resistance 2

But that doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to Insomniac’s latest entry into their other series. A huge, skyscraper sized alien was shown at E3, which Hale has to personally fight and just shows a teensy bit of the awesomeness that could potentially be contained within this title. 7. Fallout 3

I’m going to prepare my flame shield as I say that I’m not the biggest fan of Oblivion - I just couldn’t get into it. I like my games to have a direction and purpose and to me Oblivion didn’t have it. Despite this I can’t help but look forward to Fallout 3, currently being created by the same team as Oblivion. I think it’s the post-apocalyptic, American war humour that does it for me.

8. Fable 2

I love action-RPGs, they’re easily one of my favourite genres of video game and Fable 2, if it lives up to the hype, should easily find a place as one of my favourite games of all time with it’s blend of combat, loot grabbing and general messing around-ness.

9. Killzone 2

Sony’s potential Halo killer finally has a sequel coming in the first quarter of next year and so far it’s looking pretty awesome, with some impressive graphics and technical effects. I just hope that the gameplay can live up to the immersion that Guerrilla seem to be focusing on.

10. LittleBigPlanet

I love creating things. And I think most people have to agree with me on that; the human mind is ultimately destined to create and envision things. Combine this with our love for video games and the ultimate toolbox of creativity, LittleBigPlanet, is what you end up with. Screw doing the main “story”, I’m getting this masterpiece for the level editor alone and that’ll leave me entertained for hours.

Red Steel 2 Confirmed

Published by Hazzard under Uncategorized

In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz Ubisoft executive director, Alain Corre confirmed that a sequel to the mediocre Red Steel is on the way. Also adding that the first game was rushed and that the development team hopes to make use of the new 1:1 motion controls on the Wii.

Despite this, the title is still yet to be confirmed and made official by Ubisoft themselves.
