Like the title says - is WiiFit truly worth picking up, especially given it’s £69.99 price tag here in the UK? I, personally, haven’t given it a massive go, but am hoping to in the near future so I’ll post my opinions then. For now though, you have the opinions of, Miharu, a good friend of mine, as she explains what she thinks of Nintendo’s foray into the fitness leagues…

Ah, WiiFit. I eagerly awaited it’s release, bought it the day it came out, and now, after 98 days if use, I finally feel ready to give my verdict…
I’ve always enjoyed keeping fit, but my sit-ups, press-ups and bum lifts were getting a bit dull. The first time I tried WiiFit, I worked up a sweat and got exhausted but thoroughly enjoyed myself and it didn’t feel like a chore. Everything is demonstrated clearly and is easy to follow.
Now, a few months on, WiiFit, although still a good tool, is starting to show it’s flaws. I think I must have worked though the yoga poses maybe twice before getting thoroughly bored. I guess if you’re a yoga kind of person you may find them easier to stomach but I found them unchallenging and dull.
The muscle exercises section, well, I have mixed feelings on this one. While it can get very dull and repetitive, most of the exercises do feel beneficial and the game handily explains what muscles everything is meant to be working.
The aerobics section is by far my favourite,. The boxing game gets you sweaty and is a great stress buster (despite the trainer being annoying beyond all reason). The jogging game feels like a good workout, although always deflates you afterwards by informing you that you’ve done terribly and not giving a reason why. The hula hoop spinning and step routine game are both good fun , with a high score system which is good motivation, although I do sometimes get the feeling that the step game doesn’t do much in the fat burning department.
Last but not least, the balance games. These are more like games than workouts really and don’t really feel like they’re exercising you at all. However, they are stupidly fun and make use of the balance board well.
So mixed reactions on the actual exercises themselves, but WiiFit’s main flaw is the same as that of slapper on a night out: It gives everything away too quick, leaving you nothing new and exciting later on in the ‘relationship’. You start with maybe 3 games in a section, and have to unlock about another 8ish, but this proved so easy I have everything within the first week.
I didn’t actually lose any weight using the Wii Fit, but also didn’t gain any with it as my only form of exercise, which is a plus of sorts! WiiFit might help you drop a few pounds if your daily exercise is reaching for the remote to fast forward the romantic scenes in Star Wars, but otherwise it is more of a weight maintainance tool. I would recommend WiiFit, but don’t get your expectations too high. If you stick with it, you will get some results, and really, it does do what it says on the box. Lets just hope those lovely people at Nintendo will create some kind of downloadable extras for it before I go mad and give in to a life of eating butter and losing the use of my legs…
